303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake Was developed using direct measurements in the real world (versus primarily wind tunnel or computer simulation). The results were enormous. Its rim is designed to be slightly more bulbous than its predecessor, with an external width of 32 mm, an internal width of 25 mm and a rim depth of 40 mm. The profile ensures low air resistance and an improved transition between rim and tire, which increases the bike's efficiency on the road. The wide rim also has less tire deflection for lower rolling resistance. The combination of the wider tire, larger tire volume and lower tire pressure helps reduce driver fatigue, by smoothing the ride over uneven pavement and road conditions - the tire and wheel system absorbs the shaking, not the driver. Firecrest Technology
When developing the original 303 wheels, Zipp engineers found that a wider rim allowed for greater lateral stiffness, more control, greater comfort and durability. ZIPP's development of a wider rim also led to an evolution of the revolutionary Firecrest technology. Thanks to the new Firecrest profile, the aerodynamics have been improved and the center of pressure has been shifted from the center of the wheel to the rear. This means that the 45mm high 303 has a similarly low susceptibility to crosswinds as a normal hollow chamber rim. 

ABLC and VCLC
ZIPP's patented ABLC rim profile (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control) reduces air resistance even when the wind hits the rim not head-on but at an acute angle. The effectively usable angle range is significantly larger than with comparable rims. This is achieved through a special effect that also occurs on the golf ball. For this reason, ZIPP wheels have many small depressions on the rim surface.
In addition, ZIPP uses VCLC technology (Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control), in which particularly shock-absorbing, viscoelastic materials are introduced into the carbon matrix.
